A Live DJ Set Meets Urban Artistry 2025
A performance I presented at the Sneak Peek exhibition, a small, intimate showcase within my performance class. In this piece, I blended the energy of live DJing with urban artistry, using Ron Trent’s "I Feel the Rhythm" as the foundation for a house track. The performance also incorporated a recorded dialogue between artists diego and hamza and me, who shared their personal insights on dance and music, discussing their passion and experiences.
The dialogue was edited and fragmented, transforming their voices into adlibs that interacted with the rhythm of the track. This layering technique created a soundscape filled with both raw energy and knowledge, highlighting the connection between music, movement, and the artist's journey. The result was an immersive conversation that invited the audience into the heart of urban culture through sound and storytelling.
Although this work was presented in a small-scale setting at the Sneak Peek exhibition, I plan to expand it into a larger performance that further explores the relationship between DJing, voice, and movement. The piece serves as a reflection of both my practice and the ongoing dialogue between music and urban expression.

Youtube: Darmstadt represent
Choreographed by me
Darmstadt represent (linger!) will take a walk around Luisenplatz to find out what concerns people in the science city, what makes their lives rich and, above all, what holds them together. Perhaps the most famous play in German, Goethe's "Faust", is a relaxed dialogue partner for Volker Schmidt. Similar to "Faust", individual scenes are reflected in one another in a variety of places, thereby opening up rich spaces for association. During this tour through places and times, there will probably never be "the one" answer, but rather differences, contradictions and a lively coexistence - which the citizens of this city can each make their own sense of with their very personal knowledge of their Darmstadt. Whether a moment will finally arise when everyone can say they should linger... that would be nice.
Staatstheater Darmstadt „Wo ist Emilia G.?“ 2020
Almost 250 years after the premiere of Lessing's tragedy "Emilia Galotti", Schmidt's second work for the Darmstadt State Theater addresses pressing questions of contemporary theater operations. It is about who should act on a stage, who decides on what criteria and under what conditions the theater works. Instead of Lessing's prince, Schmidt lets ensemble member Thorsten Loeb act as an innovative director, initially as a white and domineering figure of light. He decides to have the role of Emilia played by three young women with a migrant background. But the director, who pretends to be hip, fails with his "integration theater". The play ends quite bloodily and at the same time amusingly.
Youtube: KRANICHSTEIN REPRESENT
The Kranichstein district in Darmstadt, established in 1968, offers a unique perspective on community and future living. Once seen as a satellite town, it has transformed into a vibrant, multicultural area rich in linguistic and cultural diversity.
Director Volker Schmidt collaborated with local residents to create a station theater piece that blends their real-life stories with imaginative elements. This combination highlights Kranichstein’s unique character while suggesting it could serve as a model for future urban living. The varied experiences of residents create a rich narrative that encourages audiences to consider the district’s past, present, and future.
Positive reviews from local media indicate that the production resonates with viewers, capturing both the beauty and complexity of Kranichstein. As the district evolves, these community narratives will play an important role in shaping its identity and discussions about urban life in the 21st century.
